COSTA RICA 2025
The Spanish Club will be taking a trip to Costa Rica during Spring Break 2025 (Dates TBA). If you are interested in going, please feel free to contact Profe Lochridge at 728-2400 ext 7638 or dclochridge@mcpsmt.org for more details. This is a fabulous trip where the students will learn about the flora and fauna of one of the most biologically diverse places on earth while they have a chance to practice their Spanish in authentic situations. On the trip we will go whitewater rafting, zip-lining, visit volcanoes, hot springs, rain forests, ocean front jungle, waterfalls, and interact with the local people in various settings.Here is a tentative itinerary:Day 1: Arrival and Orientation
Depart for Costa Rica! Arrive in the evening and settle into our hotel.
Day 2: San Jose and the Central Valley
Travel to the top of Poas Volcano, attend a professional soccer game (schedule dependent).
Day 3: Pacuare River
Morning departure for your launch on the world famous Pacuare River, transfer to Sarapiqui
rainforest region.
Day 4: Sarapiqui Caribbean Rainforest and Local High School
Optional morning birding, visit a local school to meet with local students, tour school and assist
with environmental education and rainforest restoration programs, tour a local family organic
subsistence farm, enjoy a traditional home-cooked meal, evening playing soccer or night hike.
Day 5: Costa Rica Rainforest, Mount Arenal and Hot Springs
Optional morning birding, guided hike through the rainforest looking for monkeys, exotic birds, and
sloths, afternoon transfer to La Fortuna, evening enjoying the natural hot springs at our lodge.
Day 6: Arenal National Park and High Adventure Zip Line Canopy Tour
Morning hike in Arenal National Park, forest canopy tour via a multi-platform zip line, evening
soaking in the natural hot springs.
Day 7: Pacific Coast
Depart for our bus trip to the Pacific Coast. Settle into our accommodations and enjoy the coastal breezes and an afternoon on the beach. Finish the day watching the sunset.
Day 8: Pacific Ocean Beach and (optional) Surfing Lessons and a trip into a coastal jungle national park.
Spend the rest of our day on a beautiful Pacific Ocean beach.
Day 9: Morning beach time, trip back to the central valley and a possible city time in San Jose / Alajuela
Day 10: Final reflections, and after ten amazing days, we depart for home.Total Cost TBA. We will begin registering students during the 2023-2024 school year.Email Profe Lochridge in order to be kept in the loop for planning.PURA VIDA
